Dissemination

Outreach and Dissemination Day – February, 3 2026

The opening day of MAGNET 2026 will be devoted to outreach activities, designed to foster dialogue between the scientific community, students, and the general public, and to promote innovative approaches to science communication.

Participants are kindly invited to indicate their attendance to these activities within the  registration form

Docu-drama: Lise Meitner

February 3, 11:30 – Teatro Paisiello

The morning event features the docu-drama Lise Meitner, dedicated to the life and scientific legacy of Lise Meitner, one of the pioneers of nuclear physics and a key figure in the discovery and theoretical interpretation of nuclear fission.

The performance retraces both the scientific and human journey of Lise Meitner, highlighting her fundamental contributions to modern physics, her collaboration with Otto Hahn, and her crucial role in understanding the fission process—contributions that were historically under-recognized. The docu-drama also addresses broader themes such as the role of women in science, the ethical responsibility of scientists, and the relationship between scientific discovery and its societal impact.

Conceived as a dialogue between scientific narration and theatrical language, the performance aims to make complex scientific concepts accessible while preserving their intellectual depth.
The event is primarily addressed to high-school students, but it is also open to conference participants and the general public interested in the history, ethics, and communication of science.

(A theatrical performance by and with Paola Tortora (Vintulera Teatro), proposed by Professor Giovanni Carlotti of the Department of Physics and Geology.)

Theatre show: Copenhagen by Michael Frayn

February 3, 20:00 – Teatro Paisiello
(Co-produced by UniSalento and URA Teatro)

“Copenhagen” is probably the archetype for scientific plays. With its thousand and more replicas only between National Theatre and West End, during its first production in London, and the more than three hundred in Broadway, it is a demonstration of how it is possible to enthrall the public by talking about science in a play, with only apparent simplicity. The BBC made a film of the play, starring Daniel Craig and Stephen Rea. “Copenhagen” tells the story of the meeting between Bohr and Heisenberg, two of the greatest physicists of the last century and founders of quantum mechanics, which took place at the height of World War II. The meeting is considered a historical ‘mystery’: Bohr and Heisenberg, who had been friends and close collaborators, belonged to enemy nations which were just starting to realise that a scientific theory, apparently very abstract, could lead to the creation of the most powerful bomb ever built. Bohr and Heisenberg never clarified what they had said to each other, and Frayn uses the episode as the core of a three-voices narrative that seems almost a scientific investigation, draft after draft, on physics, ethics and friendship. “Copenhagen” is a production of Unisalento with Ura Teatro: it will feature Fabrizio Pugliese as Niels Bohr and Silvia Lodi as Margrethe Bohr while Riccardo Lanzarone is Werner Heisenberg. The director is Fabrizio Saccomanno.
